How To Deal With Pressure

My wife called me several years ago while I was on my way home from work to tell me that our back yard was flooding. When I asked her how, she informed me that a pipe coming out of the wall of our house was just pouring out water. When I arrived home I did some investigative work and realized the water was coming from my hot water heater, and the pipe she referred too was my pressure relief drain.

Bob Villa I am not, but as I understand it, this drain exists to allow water to drain out of the house without leaking or exploding inside the house when there is too much pressure built up as the water is being heated inside the tank. Further tests revealed that the pressure occurring in my unit was not releasing as needed because my pressure relief valve was faulty. In an attempt to save money………
